ENTERTAINING OASIS DESIGNED FOR SHADED BACK YARD

To achieve a sense of refuge and nature’s embrace, this project began by removing an inground pool, it’s pool deck and landscaping. Days of excavating and reshaping soil has resulted in an extraordinary multilevel outdoor living space full of entertaining and respite areas.

Sundown created a new patio, ample enough for outdoor dining and casual seating. A custom structure was added to cover a new grill island which matches the style of the existing architecture and provides protection from the elements for the grill master. 

Four oversized natural stone steps connect the upper patio to the backyard path which is accentuated by a fountain featuring limestone and Mexican beach pebble accents. Outdoor lighting illuminates the steps and path in the evening.

The firepit area is a focal point which provides a place for people to come together and relax around the warm glow of a fire. The artful mix of hardscape materials (used for the walkway, firepit, columns and seat wall) provide natural color hues and texture and allow the design to flow into the wooded background.

A surprising feature of this shaded landscape is the romantic gazebo. No longer common in the today’s landscapes, a gazebo can be an elegant and refined choice in the right setting, given it’s built well and incorporated into the landscape in a seamless way. The screen structure keeps out insects and even light rain. Nestled among many shade-loving plants and natural boulders which act as retaining walls, you can count on hours of peaceful relaxation with family and friends.
